After news broke that Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was going to sell the team after this season, Sean “Diddy” Combs took to Twitter to express his interest in purchasing the team. Some were excited to hear that Diddy might purchase the NFL team……while others, simply did what people always do. Attempted to take some subtle shots at the man for having a dream bigger than anything they could ever have the courage to dream of. Those attempted dream stealers were San Franciso news and weather station, KRON 4, out of the bay area’s on air personalities, Draya Folsom, and Henry Wooford. You can hear Wooford (the off camera voice) making comments that were just unnecessarily rude and very condescending. Folsom laughed like she’d heard the funniest joke she’d ever heard in her life as Wooford asked “what does Diddy even do?” and accused Diddy of being high off a blunt and a 40 ounce of malt liquor. A clear type of racial stereotyping. Woolford continued to go in as it seemed as if Folsom’s laughing energized him. Both caught Twitter backlash for their reckless behavior. The last I checked, Folsom had even deleted her Twitter account. Both have since released public apologies for slandering Diddy’s name. Here’s the thing I have an issue with 1) Wooford is a black man. For a black man to play up a racial stereo type that has been placed on black men, just to get some laughs from his white co-worker is something I personally find disgusting. 2) The two laughing and asking “what does Diddy even do, to me, suggest they were trying to get at Diddy speaking on things that he has no knowledge of, and Diddy not possibly being able to afford to buy a billion dollar sports franchise. If we look at things in a way that takes some common sense, we would know that Diddy is worth a few hundred million, but even more importantly, Diddy has the clout to get other millionaires on board with a thing that he wanted to do…….even if that thing was purchasing a football team. So, the question is not so much, can Diddy afford to purchase a billion dollar franchise by himself? The real question is can Diddy round up enough millionaires to go in on purchasing a sports franchise with him? The answer is yes! Yes he can. And if these two reporters knew anything about how buying a sports franchise really worked, they may have been aware of how stupid they looked as they tried to make jokes about something they clearly could not comprehend.
