Ahmed Obafemi A.K.A. “Chaka Zulu”, who is the co-founder of record label “Disturbing Tha’ Peace”, and longtime manager for rapper Ludacris, was charged with murder earlier this week. According to a CNN report, Zulu’s arrest is in connection with a shooting at an Atlanta restaurant back in June, in which one person was left dead.

On the night of June 26th, police officers responded to a call of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, police found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were rushed to the hospital, where one of the victims, identified as Artez Jamil Benton of Scottsdale, Georgia, died as a result of his injuries.

Zulu was identified as the shooter a short time later. Police obtained warrants charging him with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, and other related charges. Zulu’s lawyer disagreed with the charges against his client.

“Mr. Zulu was shot in the back during the shooting and nearly lost his life, and is still recovering from the fatal injuries he sustained during that evening. Mr. Zulu was at his place of business that night and had every right to defend himself. In an attempt to save his life, Mr. Zulu lawfully discharged his weapon in self-defense; a weapon that he is licensed to carry”, Zulu’s lawyer Gabe Banks said in a written statement.

Zulu turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He was released on the same day after posting a $200,000 bail.
