This event and these brave 9 black students went on to be remembered as the Little Rock 9. This was just one of many violent protests that took place in America as whites attempted to prevent segregation of schools in the south. When questioned about his attendance at the protests, Jones said it was a “curious thing” that brought him to attend the protests and that he had no intention of harassing the black students.

“I don’t know that I or anybody anticipated or had a background of knowing…what was involved” Jones said during an interview with the Washington Post.
