An arrest was made in the armed theft of an ATM machine from a laundromat in the West Oak Lane section of the city last night. A 6 ABC Action News report said the incident happened at the D&Y Laundromat on Haines Street & Ogontz Avenue at around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Investigators said the entire incident was captured on the laundromat’s surveillance cameras. The video showed two men enter the business wearing ski masks and hoodies. They held up the place at gunpoint, before exiting the laundromat with the ATM machine.
” {They} actually picked up the ATM, carried it out the front door and put it in the back of a Kia Sportage”, said Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Scott Small.
The two employees inside of the laundromat were not injured during the incident. Police caught up to the Kia Sportage at Chew & Rising Sun Avenues shortly after the theft/robbery. The driver of the Kia stopped the car and bailed out on foot. A 28-year old male was arrested after a short chase on foot.
Police found the ATM machine sitting in the back seat of the Kia. The car was stolen in Philly earlier this week. Due to the recent rise in armed ATM thefts across the city, police said they were investigating to see if the suspect may have been connected to any other ATM thefts in the city.
